Researching allows you to build stronger and better units which allow you to adapt to certain situations and requirements, choosing your research should be largely dependent on the infrastructure you have available otherwise you might waste time.

Overview

Research allows you to mobilise new units and upgrade existing ones. Your research tree is specific to your nation's doctrine, and favours different unit types early on.
