Overview

Vision and intel come in many ways in Conflict of Nations. This can be achieved through Units or through intelligence achieved in the intel tab on the left.

There are 2 ways a unit can hide, stealth or camouflage.

  • Stealth makes it completely invisible.
  • Camouflage turns it into an unidentified target.

Sight range

All units have a sight range which is dependent on the terrain in which they are stationed (to see the range of sight check the unit information display. Sight range will allow you to see units, but are 'unidentified' if you do not have a unit with the scout feature.

Stealth

A stealthed unit is only uncovered when:

  • In fighting (fighting others or being fought)
    • This is dependent on the type of fighting. If the infantry do not have the research to attack air units; a strike fighter will not be able to identify the stack since it is not in close combat.
  • Within the range of a scout unit who is able to detect the class of stealth unit.

Note: An advantage of stealth units is that war is not declared when flying over neutral provinces.

Advanced fog of war

A unit which has not been scouted does not show how many units are present in the stack. This greatly helps with keeping your forces hidden unless a nation scouts for them intentionally.

Unidentified units are marked with a '?'

If a unit is attacking within sight range of a province or unit, the attacking/attacked camouflaged unit is no longer unidentified.

Enemy Camouflaged units that are in your friendly territory will be identified and the composition of his unit will be visible.

Scouting

Scouting units are able to display the number of units in a stack which are 'camouflaged' depending on the class of camouflaged unit.

List of Scout units who are able to determine the stack size in fog of war.

  • Special Forces - Ground
  • Combat Recon Vehicle - Ground
  • UAV - Ground
  • AWACS and Naval AWACS - Ground and Air
  • Mobile Radar - Ground and Air
  • Theatre Defense System - Air
  • Stealth Air Superiority Fighter - Air
  • ASW Helicopter - Sea
  • Naval Patrol Aircraft - Naval
  • Destroyer - Naval
  • Attack Submarine - Naval

Radar

The radar feature is rather in-depth and has 3 properties:

  • Type
  • Range
  • Size

Type

The radar types are Air, land, Sea surface, sea submerged.

Range

Each unit has a range vicinity which is able to detect different types of units at different ranges. So, for example, if an attack helicopter is able to see ground & air units, the size for ground can be set differently than it is for sea.

Size

The size value of a unit determines if it can be detected by a radar or not. Some small units are not able to be detected by radar, while larger ones are picked up.

Patrol

Air units are able to use a patrol feature to automatically attack enemy units if they are within the vicinity of it. The patrol marker is marked with a blue circle. Any enemy units within this circle will be automatically attacked periodically.
