Getting Started

How do I start?

This is entirely individual. Are you aggressive or more diplomatic in your approach to expansion? In the end, decide upon a research progression that best suits your military style and begin researching. Construct buildings which will allow you to mobilize the force that you envision and then mobilize your troops. Diplomacy and interrelationships are the key to a global military campaign, so open up a conversation with your neighbours and see if you can coordinate your efforts. Good luck!

I clicked on a province, why can’t I build or mobilize there?

Chances are that you have clicked on a Homeland Province. You cannot build in a province; a Homeland City is where you can issue commands such as the Construction of a building or the Mobilization of troops.

What is the difference between Homeland Province and Homeland City?

  • A Homeland Province does not have the population required to produce resources, however some can produce limited resources but all produce Money and Manpower.
  • A Homeland City is larger than a Province and has the required population and infrastructure which will allow you to Construct and Mobilize.

How do I win?

You win by collecting enough Victory Points (VP) as required by the Victory Conditions set in the game. You can always check in the Newspaper to see the Victory Conditions. You meet the Victory Conditions when you go and take new land!

What are Victory points?

Victory Points (VP) are the set points on each city in CoN. The way to capture more VP is simple you take over the new land with VP.

You can find your City VP in the province pop-up once you click on a City. It is important that you do not confuse the number in brackets on the map as VP this is just population.

How Do I Join a New Game?

Just Press Join
Joining a new game is simple. Open the “Games” tab, then click on “New Games” Scroll through the NEW GAME list until you find a game that matches your expectations. Click JOIN

How Do I Create a New Game?

As a Member of the Security Council you will benefit from being able to create new games. In addition as a Member of the Security Council you can password your created games

Clicking on the New Games tab enables you to look into the current list of games. This tab will show you games at varying days and in all languages. Joining a game on Day 7 will be very different from joining on Day 1, as will joining a game whose primary language is Spanish rather than English or Polish.


Clicking on the Search Options button will open up 8 search options, and should you already know the game reference number of the game you are searching for, you can always paste it in the search.

How Do I Archive My Current Game?

You can archive any current game at any time. Click the i information on the game from the My Games panel, then click Move to Archive. Your game will be then moved to the Archive.


I Want My Archived Game Back, How Can I Retrieve It?

If you inadvertently moved your favourite game to the Archive, you can always pull it back. Simply visit the Archive, click on the i game information and opt to move the game by clicking Move to My Games.

I am Game Master, How Can I Remove Inactive Players?

Game Masters can NO LONGER remove inactive players.

Can I speed up my research?

You can fast-track research by 12 hours by clicking the gold Accelerate button in the used research slot. This will cost you gold

How do I cancel a Research?

You can cancel a research by pressing the red X on the used research slot, but note that you will ONLY get the UNUSED amount of resources back. For example, if you cancel a research 55% finished, you will get 45% of your resources back.

What happens if there are not enough Victory Points remaining after Global Nuclear War to end the game?

The amount of Victory Points required to win the game is always relative to the sum of victory points available, so such situation is not possible. But that also means that it is possible to win by bombing down all other players so that the required Victory Points actually drops below your Victory Points instead of the other way around...

Do aircraft get destroyed when you destroy their airbase?

No, they rebase to the closest airbase. It wouldn't make sense that they would simply fall out of the sky if they still had a viable airport in another city.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) that so much can develop its Armed Forces?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an intelligent aspect to the game. It can trade on market, declare war, mobilize units, train units, build/demolish and research. The AI on CoN is very unpredictable and it is what makes every game challenging.

How can you promote diplomatic relations with Artificial Intelligence Nations?

Easy answer is the same as above, the AI is unpredictable it won’t declare peace, however if you change your status to Right of Way or Peace it can change its status to match within a couple of day to over a week.

Is it better to invade AI controlled country directed at the start or to expect that their companies will be Developed?

This answer is never clear given the AI’s unpredictable nature, yes, you can invade and try to cut it down to size, however it too has AI allies that will declare war on you and this could lead to a 4 on 1 scenario where 4 battlefields are open and only you are the enemy, so this will be an obstacle (unless you are brave). I suggest you build up your army and infrastructure then strike your enemy be it AI or Human.

How to maintain morale during the war and avoid innocent victims?

The easiest way to do this is with the following options;

  • Keep your resources in the green and in stock so the civilian population does not suffer greatly.
  • Keep buildings intact (repair when needed) and continue with your developments.
  • Station troops with high morale to keep the population calm and at ease.
  • Use gold (premium currency) to boost population morale.
  • Try to maintain as much positive relations with neighbours and other world leaders as too many wars will negatively impact your people's morale.
  • Do not lose your capital, once this falls your people will begin to grow weary of the war
If possible strike a blow to your enemies capital as soon as possible to show your people that their nation has the most elite army that is unmoveable.
  • The modes of strategy to use are Economy (Dedicated 100% 100 to the economy to produce and sell in peace), Military (Dedicated 100% 100 to achieve greater military power to win war resources) and finally Diplomacy (Dedicated 100 % 100 in establishing diplomatic relations that avoid the enemy).

How do I change the language of my game?

CoN has 9 supported langeage servers
In the top right corner of your homepage you will notice a flag, in the case above the flag is that of the American/British flags, indicating that English is the chosen language for this particular game. If you would like to change the language, click the flag and select your preferred language. We offer Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, Polski, ру́сский, and Türkçe.

I have Queued Mobilization and Construction but don’t have enough to Complete?

Don’t worry just sit there until you have the resources they will sit in the queue until you have the needed resources to continue.

How does morale work? What is target morale?

Morale is a value impacting how many resources from a province you will get. The higher, the better, obviously. At each day passing the morale changes a bit, toward a “target” morale value.


Target morale is a value that determines what way the morale goes at day changing.


If morale target of a province is 50, then, without additional bonus/malus, the morale of this province will slowly go to 50.


Basically, now, if an annexed city has a 75 morale target, is surrounded by the enemy, has no buildings, and surroundings provinces are all 25% morale, you'll have something like -20 / - 20 malus


75 - 20 - 20 = 35. The city will stabilise at 35% morale. Up to you to build bunkers or to conquer surrounding provinces, in order to "manipulate" bonus/malus. Sorry if I'm not understanding correctly but does this mean morale of my annexed cities will now be default 75%, and I would have to build stuff to achieve 100%, even with no enemy threat or negative modifiers from unhappy neighbours?


Usually, players don't remark this value because by default it's 100, and it seems logical morale raise to maximum value.


With no malus:


75 + 25 (bunker) = 100.

Is there any Option to cross the Pacific Ocean by Planes?

Fighting planes are always able, through air refuelling, to cross great distance by air. You can cross the pacific with your bombers, fighters and strike fighters. However, your troops won’t be able to be airlifted over such distances.


As the US, my troops have to take a boat at Hawaii to Fiji Island, there is no possibility to flight directly to Guam.


That is how it’s supposed to be. If you want to take a fighting force of any substantive size across an ocean, you must use ships. There's no extant counter-example in the annals of military history.


The only well-documented, somewhat modern campaign to be fought in that theatre was an amphibious campaign that involved massive numbers of troops and incredible amounts of support personnel and equipment. They moved using ships. Forces in a future conflict will likely need to do the same thing.

When do Battles Update?

Battle results are updated every hour (unless you are attacking a province with no troops this should be an instant win). You can see the results of battles in the ingame newspaper CoN News (CONN)

Note: You may see units been reported as “losses” or “Casualties”, this is a record that you have lost units in different battles at the same time so the system has summarized these battle results for you.

Is the Help / Global / Alliance / Beta Chat Linked to all Games or Just my Game?

These chats are global they are linked to every game on Conflict of Nations, however, chat is server based so if you are on the English server you are in the English chat server, if on Russian server you are on Russian chat server. Depending on your server choice the official language of the chat will be the language of the server.


Note: You can join another language game on any server (e.g. join Italian game on English server) however chat is not tied down to server so if you play an Italian game and you play on the Russian server the chat language is Russian.

Why do I see Green Names in Chat?

These Green names show that these players are on the support team and / or game staff. Most Commonly you will see support team members. They enforce our game rules and issue chat warnings/bans they are also there to help with an issue you may have.

What is this X-Factor?

So it is IMPORTANT to note that terrain type, unit morale, tech level and numbers will have an important part to play in battles/conflicts in CoN.


This game also has an "X" Factor (and no not the singing competition) also known as the "possibility" factor for determining battle results. This is a randomly generated number that adds some randomness and excitement to a battle so nothing is ever the same and always something different to experience.


This battle calculator is a Key feature of the game coding work behind CoN, which is what makes the game enjoyable as no battle outcome is always the same and so not always predictable. This X-factor keeps the game fun and enjoyable as not every battle will have the same outcome.

What is the Differences Between Province/Land/Territory?

Territories: This is simple you have 4 types of provinces;

1. Homeland Province: You can only build outposts and other quick builds on these provinces, some resources are produced (but not every province) here and you cannot recruit units but you earn cash and manpower).

2. Homeland City: Homeland Cities are the territories that produce resources, allow the construction of units and mobilization of military units.

3. Occupied Provinces: These are Homeland provinces of another nation which you have taken over produces no resources and very little cash and manpower are produced here. You can build outposts only on these provinces.

4. Occupied Cities: These territories are Cities you occupy and produce resources, manpower and resources/

5. Annexed Cities: These are occupied cities that you have Annexed, once annexed you can construct buildings and mobilize your Army there.

Note: These provinces state 12 hr Annexation time but morale will play a key part here the higher the morale the shorter the time to match the 12hrs the lower the morale the the higher the annexation time.

What is the Security Council?

Security Council is the premium account for Conflict of Nations. As a member of the Security Council you can use certain functions, which are not available to other players, this membership can help players who are not online around the clock. The benefits include;

  • Free Gold rounds.
  • Rally points.
  • Building queue (for both construction and troop mobilization).
  • Joint intelligence (Shared Intel).
  • Upload pictures in the newspaper.
  • Password Games.
  • Create Games.
  • Advanced fire control.
  • Membership to a special SC Chat in the chat box.

Gold is the premium currency in Conflict of Nations, it has many uses;

  • Fast-track Research.
  • Fast-track mobilization (troop recruitment)
  • Fast-track building construction.
  • Increase province morale.
  • Decrease other nation’s province morale.
  • Various special options for your Intelligence Agency (Espionage/spies)
  • Market trades if no trade available,


Note: You can also play without Gold and still play very successfully and win your round, but a targeted Gold operation may also be the deciding factor for a victory.

Can I Demolish unwanted Buildings?

Yes. Unlike some other similar games this a viable option in CoN.To do this just click on your city province and beside the building you want to demolish, select demolish option.
In times of war you need to make the enemy work harder! A "Scorched Earth" policy is needed..

Stack of Units is Moving Very Slowly?

This happens as large stacks have a penalty attached to them. One of the most important changes to modern combat is the relatively low number of combatants involved. No longer do one million men invade a foreign country. Today’s invasions play by the factor 10 lower. To simulate modern logistics and fire and maneuver doctrines we have implemented a strict stacking penalty for units. Expect to see diminishing returns and even negative modifiers in combat strength, movement speed and defensive capabilities. While yellow, the stacked units are just suffering diminishing returns… but once the indicator hits red prepare to suffer.

Does the Terrain Type Really Matter?

In Conflict of Nations we have ensured that terrain plays a vital role in planning conquests. From the jungles of Amazon to the icy wastes of Greenland the terrain places specific demands on the men and machines we are simulating in this game. Simply pull up the terrain mode in the lower right game corner and plan your optimal tactics.

How Does Entrenching Work On CoN?

Cities and provincial map-points (indicated by the junction of all major roads) will provide a solid defensive bonus by entrenching all units located in the area. This is automatic and stops once the unit is ordered to move on.

Is Retreating Worthy of its White flag?

Should units ever start getting mauled badly, players can order them to retreat to a neighbouring friendly territory at a cost of hit points. This helps preserve strength and allows the units to heal over time.

How Does Unit Healing Work?

Building military hospitals will speed up the recovery time of units low on HP. Generally, ground units will recover a small amount of HP over the course of time when in friendly territory. Just as naval vessels repair over time when in shallow waters.

Are Bunkers Really Worth the Resource Spend?

Rather than creating an invincible fortress, today’s city defenses are all about providing civil protection against weapons of mass destruction. The better equipped a city is, the more of its population will survive any serious attack. Additionally, there is of course some military value in hardened positions as well, so YES bunkers are worth the time.

What else can Affect Morale?

As in modern war zones across the globe Crimes against Humanity will play a vital role in morale of the civilian population.

Units sent into enemy cities that are not yet conquered will start decimating the local population. This is considered a war crime and can have severe consequences with the morale of the player’s population – especially if large numbers of civilians suffer from this behaviour.

In CoN How Good is Chemical and Nuclear Warfare?

Probably the strongest weapons ever invented, these are the ultimate killers – albeit with a double edge. The resulting loss of life, devastation and contamination wrought by one of these weapons of mass destruction will not go unchecked by other nations and the perpetrators own population. In Conflict of Nations there is the real chance of the world turning into a contaminated wasteland, populated by unhappy survivors.

Why aren’t paratrooper infantry available to use from transport planes?

Parachutes have pretty much been phased out on an operational and strategic level, tactically they are of course still used. The only armed forces currently still maintaining a larger parachutist contingency is Russia and they too are more and more transitioning these troops into air-assault helicopter forces. Reasons for this shift are numerous, but essentially date back to WW2 and the rather "flaky" results of large scale paradrops (Market-Garden/Arnheim, Crete to name two of the worst). Additionally modern battlefields require copious amounts of munitions and supplies for frontline units to work effectively, with "self-sufficient" paratroopers being nearly impossible to maintain.

On top of this comes the high risk ratio of modern anti-air and air dominance scenarios - making air transporting large amounts of soldiers into contested air space more than hap-hazardous. What is important to note is that: Further down the research tree units are able to research an air lift capability.
